# Vercel eve vs Hubzoid: where each fits

Is Vercel eve open source, and is there a Python option? Compare eve and Hubzoid on language, license, hosting, approvals and Slack, plus other alternatives.

Vercel's eve and Hubzoid share an idea: an agent is a folder of files you can read, review and keep in Git. [eve](https://eve.dev) is a TypeScript framework for durable backend agents, in public beta, that runs best on Vercel. Hubzoid is an open-source platform for internal AI agents, in Python, with a team web app, per-person access and approvals built in.

> **In short.** Choose Hubzoid when you want a Python option and a ready team experience: sign-in, a web chat app, per-person tool permissions and approvals, on your own servers. Choose eve when TypeScript developers are building backend agents on Vercel and want durable runs in a clean folder convention.

## Why teams choose Hubzoid

- **Python and plain files.** A [Hub](https://hubzoid.com/docs/concepts/hub) is Markdown for knowledge and rules and Python for tools, so data and operations teams work in a language they know.
- **A team app from day one.** Teammates sign in to web chat, approve actions in their Inbox and manage schedules in Settings. Nothing to build first.
- **Access per person, not per route.** Hubzoid checks [each person's grants](https://hubzoid.com/docs/concepts/identity-and-access) before a restricted tool runs, and records the decision.
- **Runs where you choose.** Your laptop, a Linux server or Docker, with no platform account.

## Where eve is stronger

- A clean TypeScript convention for durable backend agents, with first-class approvals and channels.
- Deep integration with Vercel's workflow, sandbox and cron services when you deploy there.

## One task, built two ways

An engineering team wants an agent that answers on-call questions from its runbooks and restarts a service only with approval.

**In eve**, a developer creates the agent folder with instructions, the runbooks as skills and a restart tool whose policy pauses for a person, then deploys to Vercel or their own server.

**In Hubzoid**, the on-call lead adds the runbooks to the Hub, a coding assistant builds the restart tool, and the tool asks first. Only the on-call group is granted it. Everyone else can still ask questions.

## Other eve alternatives

- **Mastra**, a broader TypeScript framework. See [Mastra vs Hubzoid](https://hubzoid.com/blog/mastra-and-hubzoid).
- **LangGraph**, for graph-shaped agent workflows in Python or TypeScript.
- **CrewAI**, for teams of role-based agents.
- **OpenAI Agents SDK** and **Claude Agent SDK**, for one model provider's agent loop.

## Questions

**Is Vercel eve open source?** Yes, Apache 2.0, in public beta under Vercel's beta terms. Hubzoid is also Apache 2.0.

**Is there a Python version of eve?** No, eve is TypeScript. If you like the folder-of-files idea in Python, Hubzoid is built that way.

**Can eve run without Vercel?** Yes. Its self-hosting guide runs it as a Node server, with your own workflow storage, sandbox and route authentication.
